This song is a suicide note.
He tried to persuade himself to commit, but the day rose too soon. He’s telling his lover that he’ll try again eventually, but he doesn’t want her to sympathize for him; he wishes her to be proud of him.
He also understands that she will be devastated once he is gone. He’s singing for her to live long once he’s gone. He knows she will die one day, but for the time being, she is free of him and his despair.
She is now free.
He’s worried of the night now since he knows that’s when he’ll leave her, but his melancholy and worry are getting too much for him to bear.
His ‘demons’ are his friends, and demons frequently appear at night.
